Getting to Puerto Galera

Sikat ferryPuerto Galera is the easiest dive center to reach in the Philippines. It is located just 80 miles south of Manila on the island of Mindoro.

Unlike many areas of the Philippines no flight is required and we can make all your travel arrangements. You can be sure that transfers will quick and easy.

There are three ways to reach Puerto Galera

Private Transfer

The private transfer service is available 24 hours a day - direct from Manila airport and is the most convenient way to reach Puerto Galera.

Mum getting on private boatOur driver will meet you at the airport. The rate includes a private van good for 6 people (more vans can be booked for larger groups) as well as a private boat.

From the airport you will driven to a beach near Batangas City. The trip takes about 3 hours. Ask the driver if you would like to stop along the way. From Laya beach it is a one hour private boat ride direct to Sabang beach and your resort.

To ensure that you have no trouble meeting the driver at the airport we have prepared a transfer fact sheet in adobe pdf format. We recommend that you print it out and carry it with you. Download it here

The municipality of Puerto Galera collects P50 from everyone entering Puerto Galera to use towards environmental projects. For those people entering the area by private boat transfer we will collect P50 per person, so that we can pass it on to the municipal office.

Sikat Tourist Service

Super 85 ferry/busSikat Tourist Service

If you prefer to spend a night in Manila, or are on a budget, the Sikat Company operates a convenient service from Manila.

The service is less convenient than a private transfer as it operates just once a day - early in the morning. This will usually mean staying one night in Manila.

Time
Daily service from Manila at 0800. Return trip from Sabang to Manila at 0915

Place
The Sikat leaves from the City State Tower Hotel, Mabini Street (near the corner of Padre Faura Avenue), Ermita, Manila. The booking office is in the left, rear corner of the hotel lobby. Get there by 0730 at the latest to purchase your tickets.

Manila Hotel
We are more than welcome to book you a hotel in Manila. We will make the reservation, payment is made direct to the hotel.

For comfort and value for money we recommend the Cherry Blossoms hotel, which is located next to Robinson's shopping mall and about 200 meters from the City State Tower Hotel. All are situated in the Ermita area of Manila. A map of Ermita with the hotels marked can be downloaded here (pdf file)

Please note that we only arrange transfers for people diving or taking a course with Frontier Scuba.

Public transport

Public transport to Puerto Galera is fairly simple, though not too comfortable. Buses leave Manila every 10 minutes bound for Batangas City Pier. Go to the J.A.M bus terminal, on the corner Taft Ave and Buendia Ave. in Manila. Here you can catch an aircon bus (P200) to Batangas Pier. Once at the pier there is a P10 terminal fee.

Allow at least three hours for the bus trip and watch your bags on board. Once at the pier you can catch any of the ferries bound for Sabang or Puerto Galera (see ferry timetable below). We would recommend taking the ferry to Sabang as it will save you a trip from Puerto Galera. Call and tell us which boat you plan to take and we will meet you and escort you to the dive center.

On arrival there are local government staff on the beach, collecting Pesos 50 for an environmental users fee. This is legitimate charge from the local government, so please pay to the licensed collectors.

Frontier Scuba is located on the West end of Sabang Beach next to Angelyn's resort. Come and say hello and we will sort our some accommodation for you while you can sit back and relax.
